Did you ultimately choose to go into the private sector? The public sector is going to see more changes than would probably be used to due to the changing atmosphere surrounding healthcare, and doctors being on this sort of reputation system seems a little off when I looked at it briefly.

Maybe you can clarify, but from what I got, doctors are rewarded (in terms of pay etc...) according to the quality of health care they give rather than the number of patients they have. I know the private sector can opt out of this sort of practice, but it is new and strange for sure imo, but hey, I am not a doctor, and if I were, the quality in healthcare I give would be kicking a few patients out of my offices. So not good for me.

I am curious about the inner workings of the medical field. Wherever you work, does the facility support a research-based lab, and also, is it possible for you to transfer to a lab. So say you wanted to not help patients and wanted to go into research within the same hospital, could you do that seamlessly, or would you have to take some other coursework, etc...?

lol -awesome! yeah i'm changing from hospitalist to primary care clinic this spring. i totally miss doing pediatrics and outpatient preventative medicine. i know the patients are much less complicated and less sick and more opinionated, but i'm actually psyched. though studying like a med student again.

That novel Andromeda strain was quite detailed. It had so much background information it took up over half the book. The other half is actual plot. Really tedious read. I'm enjoying it. Just was hard to want to rush back to it until the plot picked up.
